Chilton County was named among the “more favored” snowfall areas by the National Weather Service Birmingham, and is forecasted to receive an average of one-inch snow accumulation for Dec. 8.

Snowfall, likely to be mixed with rain, is expected to begin around 5 or 6 a.m., according to Meteorologist Mark Rose of NWS Birmingham.

Rain is expected to cease, with snow becoming the primary precipitation a little later in the morning, according to Rose.

Rose said the “favored areas” for snowfall are located between Birmingham and Montgomery.

“So, right now, it’s looking like Chilton County may actually be one of the counties that may see the more snowfall totals,” Rose said. “So, we could see up to an inch or so… Most of it will fall during the morning hours tomorrow morning (Dec. 8), and probably taper off by early afternoon.”

Rose said accumulation may take more time due to prior rainfall and steady temperatures in the mid thirties.

Ice is not expected to form, as temperatures are unlikely to drop below 32 degrees Fahrenheit.

Nonetheless, Chilton residents are urged to keep up-to-date with weather forecasts, especially before leaving their homes for work, Rose said.

Drivers should drive slower and leave more driving distance between vehicles.
