Clanton First United Methodist Church is bringing joy to the world with its annual Christmas Cantata with Orchestra, set for Dec. 9 at 6 p.m. in the church sanctuary.

“It’s really important that people feel the spirit of Christmas — the peace and the love for Jesus Christ — and music is a beautiful way to express that,” Elisabeth Smith, CFUMC Administrative Assistant, said.

This year, the chancel choir, directed by Music Minister Greg Faulkner, will present a production of “Sing Joy to All the World” with orchestra accompaniment, Smith said.

“It’s really beautiful,” Smith said of the orchestra. “And especially it’s lovely because it helps bring more of the performing arts to Chilton County… Especially for some children that may not be able to [travel], it really adds a lot, I think, to our community.”

Desserts and coffee will follow the production in CrossRoads Café, located downstairs in the main building.

“Tickets are free and can be obtained from any choir member or at the church office,” according to Marsha Littleton of CFUMC.

Smith said tickets allow the church to know how many guests to expect, simply to ensure a proper amount of refreshments are prepared for those attending the special program.

“The main purpose [of the event] is absolutely to reach out to people in this season of Advent, in the spirit of Christmas, and sing joy to all the world! Just like the name of the program,” Smith said.
