The Clanton City Council approved a request for annexation during its Nov. 27 meeting.

The property is located on Bradberry Lane and will be zoned B2 General Business District.

Adjoining property is already zoned B2 General Business District.

“The county has shown her (property owner Mary Brantley) being in the city limits,” Mayor Billy Joe Driver said.

Driver said Brantley has also paid city taxes for the past five years, although the property was not actually in the city.

The annexation clears up this issue allowing a project for a garage for the house on the site to move forward with the proper permitting.

The City Council approved suspending the rules, so that the item could come up for immediate consideration. The annexation will be posted as required and then it will go into effect.

A new lease was also unanimously approved for the Chilton County YMCA for $500 a month for five years.

Councilman Sammy Wilson said the Council needed to add a clause stating the organization could not sublease the building without approval from the City Council.

The Council approved adding this condition.

Also during the meeting, students from Clanton Middle School thanked the City Council for providing police officers to accompany their trip to Washington D.C.
