Verbena Fire and Rescue, the volunteer fire station that serves Verbena, is raising funds through Pasta with a Purpose on Oct. 14 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

All proceeds will help the department pay the required 5 percent match on a recent grant.

“We were fortunate enough to get a grant for a new truck, and we have to come up with a 5-percent match,” Fire Chief Allen Goree said.

The event will be held at the Verbena Fire Station, located off of Highway 31 in Verbena. A plate of pasta and salad will be $10.

“You will actually be able to drive through the station, pick up your plate and not even get out of your car,” Goree said.

Goree said the required match is $7,500, and the department has raised $2,500 toward this goal through other fundraisers. The truck is a 2017 Dodge SL5500 brush truck and will be delivered.

Goree said the department wants to raise the needed funds rather than “knocking on doors and begging for money.’

T-shirts, featuring the Verbena Fire and Rescue logo, will also be for sale at the event for $10. Goree said sizes small to 2X are available, but there is a limited supply.
