JHS beats Dallas County in straight sets

As a fresh volleyball season gets rolling, the Jemison Panthers got started on the right path Sept. 14 with a win over the Dallas County Hornets 25-23; 25-16; 25-12 to start regional play.

With the score tied at 7-all, an ace by Kelsey Lowery and a kill by Hannah Northcutt gave the Panthers their first real lead of the set at 9-7.

Carolina Foote extended that lead by three from her serving position thanks to a 3-0 run.

The Panthers led by as many as five in the set, but the Hornets battled back to within one at 24-23, before a kill from Foote sealed the first set win for Jemison

Foote answered the call for the Panthers in the second set as well with an early kill that jump started a 3-0 run and put Jemison out in front early, 6-4.

That lead would grow on a 4-0 run behind the serving of Logan Woodley that put the Panthers way out in front, 11-5.

Jemison saw their lead grow even further in the set thanks to serving behind Lauren Broussard and with a 24-16 lead, an ace by Woodley gave the Panthers a 25-16 second set win.

The third and final set of the match was all Panthers, as Jemison jumped out to a commanding 11-3 lead thanks to an early 6-0 run.

A 4-0 run by Lowery extended the Jemison lead to 10 and an ace by Elizabeth Autrey and kill by Leslie Hague made the score 21-8 in favor of Jemison.

With the Panthers on cruise control and sporting a 24-12 lead, a kill by Hague gave Jemison a 25-12 set win, and a 3-0 match win.

Northcutt led the Panthers with nine kills, while Broussard added eight assists.
