The Cedar Grove and Clanton fire departments joined forces to subdue a fire raging from a vacant residence located at 708 Cone Circle early morning Sept. 5.

Clanton Fire Chief David Driver said units were dispatched around 5:20 a.m. to confront the flames.

Driver said that because there was no fire hydrant nearby, Cedar Grove offered assistance with a couple of tanker trucks to supply water for the torrid task.

With about 20 firefighters at the scene, the blaze was in control in about 25 minutes, doused to a manageable state by 5:50 a.m., Driver said.

“The house was still standing, but it would be considered a total loss,” Driver said. “It’s burnt at one end really bad, but there was fire damage throughout the house.”

A cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
