The Chilton County Humane Society is collecting items to help the four-legged victims of Hurricane Harvey.

Kristi Hyche, Chilton County Humane Society board member, said the organization would be collecting pet food, chew toys, cat litter, food and water bowls, blankets, towels, jugs and bottles of water.

Donations will be accepted at the Humane Shelter at 139 Shade Tree Drive.

Hyche said canned pet food needs to be the pop-top kind, since can openers may not be readily available.

She said the chew toys can help animals that are dealing with anxiety. Hyche said having a toy to chew keeps the nervous animals from chewing themselves.

Jimmy Hardee of Hardee Enterprises approached the organization about participating in collection of donations for victims of Hurricane Harvey.

Hardee hopes to make a delivery of supplies to Texas on Sept. 15. He is also collecting supplies to assist with clean-up efforts, including cleaning supplies, trash bags, rubber boots and Clorox. Donations are coming in from local residents and churches from a variety of denominations.

“This thing is way bigger than me,” Hardee said.

Donations of cleaning supplies are being accepted at 1805 Seventh Street South on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sundays from 2 to 5 p.m. and on weekdays by appointment.
