Chilton County Schools seniors will have the opportunity to speak to college and career recruiters during a college and career fair on Sept. 6 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.
This annual event will be held at the National Guard Armory.
“This event gives the seniors opportunity to talk to representatives from all different types of colleges and universities,” Kim Benson, CCS career coach, said. “We will have community colleges, two-year universities, four-year universities … there is going to be a cosmetology school there. It gives them a chance to compare and contrast between the different colleges and universities at one time.”
There will be 34 colleges located throughout Alabama and Mississippi State University represented.
Students have the chance to ask admission questions and find out about scholarships. Benson said many of the college representatives are also on the college’s scholarship committees.
Each branch of the military and several of the larger, local employers will also be on site. Benson said she is working to expand the number of businesses represented at the fairs.
Students are asked to dress professionally, “at least business casual,” and have thought about the careers and college majors they might be interested in, Benson said.
“We hope parents encourage their students to really take advantage of this,” Benson said.
The fair is the second opportunity Chilton County high schoolers have to meet with college representatives.
“They have an initial visit as junior in the spring, then they have the summer to think about it, and they come back and talk to them in the fall,” Benson said.
