The YMCA of Chilton County is hosting a free, outdoor, yoga class on Sept. 9 at 8 a.m. for beginner to intermediate levels.

“Yoga is something that hits all aspects of restoration,” said yoga instructor Hope Falotico. “If someone is wanting to get back into shape, wanting to lose weight, restore flexibility, dealing with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, postpartum recovery, or recovery from surgery, yoga is something that will help.”

YMCA Director Lori Patterson said individuals interested in attending the class do not have to be members of the YMCA.

“We are offering this class to sort of see if there is interest to continue offering an outdoor yoga class beginning in October,” Patteron said. “We currently offer yoga classes at the Y, but this is to see if people are interested in an outdoor class.”

Regular yoga classes are available Monday, Wednesday and Friday each week beginning at 10 a.m. and on Thursdays at 6:30 p.m.

Falotico said individuals often enjoy the environment of being outdoors in a clean environment.

“A lot of times people feel less restricted and less intimidated if they are outside, and it is easier to relax and appreciate the outdoors,” Falotico said. “Plus, the body sweats naturally a lot easier.”

Class participants should bring either a yoga mat, an old rug or beach towel, a water bottle, and wear something comfortable.

“My husband and I used to travel a lot and we would always stop off and camp with groups of people and do yoga,” Falotico said. “It is a very welcoming environment to be outdoors and have the ability to relax.”

The class will take place at the soccer fields adjacent to the YMCA building.

“I am trained in all different types of yoga,” Falotico said. “We will be throwing in all different types of yoga for this particular class for entertainment. It will be a lot of fun and everyone will be able to enjoy complete relaxation at the end.”
