Weighted Hearts celebrated its new location and membership in the Chilton County Chamber of Commerce with a ribbon cutting on Aug. 3.

The business moved to its location on Seventh Street, across from Goose Pond Park, in June. Founders Wendy an Molly Anderson said the new location gives them better visibility to the community and more space than their previous location.

Wendy Anderson said they wanted to join the Chamber for the networking and community building opportunities.

“That is one of the things we really want to here is build community and really get involved with the local artist environment and the local craftsman,” Wendy Anderson said.

Chamber president Jason Calhoun said the business owners “have found their niche” with their products, and he was excited for them to be a part of the Chamber. Their unique products fill a need in the community, Calhoun said.

Craft supplies and specialized items are the business’ focus.

“Our primary goal is to be able to offer weighted blankets to those that suffer from anxiety, sleep disorders, everything from autism to PTSD,” Wendy Anderson said. “Our secondary mission is to renew the concept of getting back to our roots of things being made by hand.”

Weighted Hearts already features some items by local artisans and hopes to expand this by offering artists space to sell their work. Molly Anderson said they are always looking for new artists’ work to sell.

Vendor events for the weekends are being planned for next year.
