School board approves coaching and academic supplements

The Chilton County Board of Education approved academic and coaching supplements during a special called meeting on July 25.

Supplements for assistant principals, technology coordinators and band directors were unanimously approved. Each assistant principal will receive a $5,700 supplement. Supplements for band directors totaled to $29,653. Supplements for technology coordinators totaled to $17,400. Board president Lori Patterson was absent.

Special education supplements of $7,000 and academic supplements of $26,000 were approved 5 to 1. Vice Chair Joe Mims, board members Linda Hand, Keith Moore, Jim Shannon and Curtis Smith voted in favor. Board member Pam Price voted against.

Academic Supplements are available to teachers who travel out-of-county with a school club for competition.

Supplements for middle school and high school coaches were approved 5 to 1 for each of the schools. Vice Chair Joe Mims, board members Linda Hand, Keith Moore, Jim Shannon and Curtis Smith voted in favor. Board member Pam Price voted against. How much a coach will receive for a supplement is determined by years of service. School Superintendent Tommy Glascock said coaching supplements were distributed based on enrollment at the schools in order to distribute the funds equally across the school system.

Chilton County High School coaching supplements were $50,923. Clanton Middle School coaching supplements were $14,620. Jemison High School supplements totaled $51,870. Isabella High School supplements totaled $49,640. Verbena High School supplements totaled $39,783. Thorsby High School supplements totaled $50,190. Maplesville High School supplements came to $45,403. Jemison Middle School supplements totaled $13,664.

Some of the supplement positions have not been filled, yet.
