People of all ages are on the lookout nowadays for painted “kindness” rocks, which can be found scattered at various locations in the county.

The rock-painting phenomenon has spread throughout the United States and internationally and has become a summer craze in Chilton County.

The idea is to paint a message of inspiration on a rock and leave it at a desired location in town for others to find and view.

The typical rule is that if a person finds a rock, they are supposed to replace it at a different spot but at the same location.

Common hiding places are city parks and business establishments.

Whether a rock provides a person with reassurance and inspiration or just makes them laugh, either of those results helps accomplish the goal of the project.

It is a summer event that the entire family can take part in by seeking, finding or hiding rocks.

There are Facebook groups for nearly each part of the county. They promote and post about details to their fellow rock hunting community.

Summer is that time of year when many people have some time on there hands and are looking to do something constructive outside.

The Kindness rock project is the best of both worlds, because not only does it get your kids outside but it also allows their creativity to flourish by painting rocks of their own.

So the next time that you are out and about keep your eyes open, because you never know what you will find or where you will find it.

Happy hunting to all those who continue to search and happy painting for those that continue to create and add to the fun for all.
