Vintage market coming to Clanton

The first ever Peachtree Vintage Market will take place at Elizabeth Hall in downtown Clanton July 21 and 22.
Lana Hardwick and Elizabeth Bottchen have been friends for 10 years and throughout that time have shared their passion for vintage antiquing.
According to Bottchen, antiquing or picking, as some call it, has grown in popularity in recent years and has resulted in an increase of “popup” markets.
“These are not your grandmother’s antiques that people are used to,” Bottchen said.
Hardwick lives in Clanton and came up with the idea to spread the picking craze to Clanton by having a popup market of its own.
Ten vendors will setup booths inside of Elizabeth Hall located at 619 2nd Ave. N. in Clanton.
The majority of the vendors will specialize in repurposed items that fit a farmhouse style.
“It’s all about making what was once old, new again,” Bottchen said.
Despite the market being held for the first time, it has been able to draw vendors from outside the county. Vendors from Bay Minette, Mobile, Birmingham, Bessemer and even Georgia will be on hand for both days.
“Each will bring something a little different,” Bottchen said. “You’ll never find one [vendor] just alike.”
We want it to grow and be large enough where people will want to travel, but small enough to where it maintains the southern charm of Clanton, Bottchen said.
At the moment, the Peachtree Vintage Market is at capacity with 10 vendors at Elizabeth Hall.
Admission to the event is free and even more importantly during the summer months is that everything will take place indoors and in an air-conditioned environment.
Bottchen said that popup markets typically consist of two days, with the first day serving as an “early picking” day.
The market will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on July 21 and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 22.
