The Third Annual Fraternal Order of Police/Operation: Santa Claus Charity Golf Tournament will take place July 8 at the Clanton Country Club.

Tee time is set for 8 a.m. and the event will be played under a four-man Las Vegas scramble format.

Scramble formats are common among charity golf events and typically includes teams of four players with each player hitting a shot with the best shot among the four representing the next location that all four hit from, and so on.

What makes the Las Vegas format unique is the fact that it uses a die that is rolled after each shot to select which of the four shots will be used by all.

Prizes will be drawn throughout the tournament, including cash prizes for the lowest team gross.

Challenges will take place in the middle of the event and include longest drive and closest to the hole.

A hole-in-on challenge is presented by Dixon Golf. A $10 fee is required to join the challenge.

The registration fee for the entire event is $50 per person or $200 a team. Included in the total are carts for the team, green fees and automatic entry into the on-course challenges.

Mulligans will be sold for $10 each at the beginning of the tournament with a limit of two.

All proceeds will benefit the local FOP lodge as well as the children of Chilton County that receive Christmas gifts as part of Operation: Santa Claus charitable initiative.

Water and lunch will be provided for all those in attendance. Alcohol will be available, but sold separately by the Clanton Country Club.

Registration forms must be turned in by June 30.

For those looking for information or details about the event can call any member of the FOP or the Chilton County Sheriff’s Office at (205) 755-4698.
