The Clanton Lions Club Peach Auction will be held rain or shine on June 24.

If the rain does decide to fall, the event will be held at 10:30 a.m. at Senior Connection in Park Plaza (next to Fred’s).

Auction chairman Glenn McGriffsaid the auction has about 15 to 20 entrants this year.

“It’s a little bit better than we thought it would be,” McGriff said.

He said the club appreciated Senior Connection allowing use of the building.

A decision on the parade has not been made. Watch The Clanton Advertiser Facebook and website for updates.

Parade chairman Kevin Mazingo said there were 75 entrants this year.

“It is one of the biggest parades we have ever scheduled,” Mazingo said.

The weather is a concern as Tropical Depression Cindy brings rain throughout the South.

Mazingo said the Lions Club will watch the weather for the next day or so before making a final decision.

If the parade is held, Clanton Police will have roads blocked along the parade route. Captain Neil Fetner said there will be officers at each intersection, and only parade traffic will be allowed through until the end of the parade. Fetner said parade goers need to be aware of their surroundings.

The Peach Parade will begin at Park Plaza at 9 a.m. typically lasts 30 to 45 minutes.
