Another location in Clanton has been added to the Chilton County Schools Summer Food Service Program offerings for the summer.

The E.M. Henry Skills Center in West End was recently approved as a site and began offering meals on June 12.

Chilton County Schools nutrition director Melody Bailey, who oversees the local program, said this location will be open until the last full week of July.

Lunch will be served from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

On June 12, lunch included a grilled chicken sandwich, green beans, carrots fruit, milk and chips.

Baily said Clanton City Council member Awlahjaday Agee was influential in helping them secure the location as a spot for the program. She said it was important for the program’s sites to be where the children who need it are.

Meals are provided free to children 18 and under.

“We are averaging 80 meals a day at our other sites,” Bailey said.

Stephanie Richards of the CCS Summer Food Service Program said it was important for the program to have locations children are comfortable coming to.

A list of additional locations and times as well as menus is available Chilton County website at chilton.k12.al.us under the child nutrition page.

No registration is required. Children can simply show up at the program in order to participate.

This year’s expansion of the program was made possible through a grant from the National League of Cities grant.
