Annual Peach Run set for June 17

With the month of June here Peach Festival is right around the corner.

One of the first of many festivities is the 14th Annual Peach Run on June 17, which will include 10k and 5k distances.

Barry Baker of Cornerstone Fitness and Wellness has been deeply involved with helping plan the event for each of the last 14 years.

According to Baker, the race was run years ago before it stopped for several years prior to Baker starting it back up in 2003.

“I remember it taking place as kid,” Baker said. “Being from here and having a locally owned business, we wanted to rediscover that once again.”

The event has become a natural fit for Baker as the owner of Cornerstone, which focuses on rehabilitation and health and wellness.

“I love the Peach Festival and it is another good way for people to get involved,” Baker said.

This year’s courses will take the runners through the streets of downtown Clanton, while the 10k will turn off and go weave through the neighborhood streets behind Cornerstone.

Both races will start and end at Cornerstone.

The process that goes into planning the event has gotten easier over time.

“We were able to find a timing group out of Montgomery,” Baker said. “They make sure that all the logistics are run correctly.”

Runners will be divided up into male and female classifications, as well as eight different age groups.

The overall winner in the male and female categories will receive $100 and the winner of each age group will be awarded a basket of peaches.
