Chilton County Schools Summer Food Service Program will have more locations this year.

Meals will be provided free to children 18 and under.

The program at the first location opened May 30 and ends at its final location on July 28.

Chilton County High School and the Clanton Housing Authority are new locations for this year.

CCS Child Nutrition Director Melody Bailey said last year children at CHA were served in the program, “but they had to go across the street to the park, so now they will not have to go that far

from their house.”

“Last year there were a lot of children that were missed because they don’t have a way to get to the schools,” Bailey said. “It’s all about feeding the kids and making sure they aren’t missing meals in the summer.”

Locations are selected based on where students who would benefit from the program are located and where a building is available.

Menus for each location will be posted on the Chilton County website at chilton.k12.us under the child nutrition page.

“They must eat it on the premise, they aren’t allowed to take the food of the premises,” Bailey said.

If there is something a student did not finfish eating in the time allotted, then they can take it  with them. This is the only exception.

Bailey said this policy is intended to make sure the student is actually eating the meal provided.

Since identification is not checked in this program, Bailey said children visiting local relatives could also participate.

New Covert Missionary Baptist Church will also offer a Summer Food Service Program in Maplesville.
