Rustique Relics makes spacious move

Rustique Relics recently moved down the road to its new location at 706 2nd Ave. N.
Despite the move, the business remains smack dab in the middle of downtown Clanton and has more space available at its disposal.
According to owner Margaret Johnson, the increased size of the building compared to where they were at previously was no comparison and the main reason behind the move.
Rustique Relics has not yet been opened a year and has already experienced continued growth that left them no option but to look into the idea of expansion.
“I had so many locals wanting to be a part of it and the opportunity just came available,” Johnson said.
The extra space allows for more booths, which also means more local talent and items on display.
Johnson had three booths when she first opened in September 2016 and is currently up to 48. The new location has a potential capacity for 66 booths.
“It’s just the right amount to where you’re not going to see the same thing over and over,” Johnsons said. “I’ve just listened to what the people that come in have said they wanted.”
Every vendor at Rustique Relics lives in Chilton County, which is something that Johnson takes pride in.
“My whole philosophy is about helping out Chilton County,” Johnson said. “If you buy from someone locally, you’re helping put their kid through softball or something like that.”
Johnson has turned down certain vendors with interest from other counties, because they are not a homegrown product.
Another new idea that is about to start is the introduction of musical performances from 6-9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights beginning June 2.
The concert will take place at a sectioned off area inside the store and will feature country and bluegrass “pickers and grinders.”
Admission is free for everyone interested in joining.
“You can come and sing if you want, or you can even play an instrument,” Johnson said. “It’s free entertainment for family.”
During the week the area is used for classes that teach forms of arts, such as chalk painting and scrapbooking.
Rustique Relics hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 1-5 p.m. on Sunday.
