A tree that fell on power lines was the cause of a power outage today.

Mike Jordan of Alabama Power said the outage occurred at 12:10 p.m. and impacted 7,800 customers in Chilton County, primarily in Clanton.

The tree had fallen on power lines near Interstate 65 close to Mitchell Dam, according to Jordan.

“Alabama Power personnel responded and power was restored at 12:45 p.m.,” Jordan said.

Alabama Power phone lines received a high volume during the outage. Initially, a recording told callers power would be restored by 2:30 p.m. However, Jordan said all customers power was restored by 12:45 p.m.
