Some changes in personnel have come to the Maplesville Police Department.

The Maplesville Town Council recently approved the resignation of Officer Kenneth Casey and hiring A.J. Carr full-time officer.

A 25-cent raise was approved for Assistant Chief Keith Crosby at the meeting after his nine-month evaluation with the department.

The town council has approved paying $400 toward employee insurance effective July 1. The town currently pays “$331.48 towards health insurance and $18.52 towards dental for a total of $350.00,” according to town clerk Dawn Smitherman.

The increase was prompted by an increase in the cost per person for health insurance.

Smitherman said the Blue Cross Blue Shield was increasing “$60.28 for employee and $111.51 for employee/spouse per month.”

Under old business, the council approved a 20-year lease agreement from Wade Burt for land adjacent to Brown Brothers lot. The lease agreement would allow for the parking area to be expanded.

Also during the meeting, the Council:

— approved removing VHS tapes from the library

— declined participating in the 2017 Summer Feeding Program for children

— approved $1,401 for a new power panel to be installed by Southern Electrical Service
