The Chilton County High School archery team has advanced to nationals.

The team recently competed in the Alabama State Archery Tournament.

“We shot the highest cumulative score that the team has ever shot,” team member freshman Justin Liveoak said.

Liveoak also had a good day on a personal level with a score of 295 out of a possible 300. He ranked second in the High School Boy’s Division, and is ranked second overall in the state.

The team was competing against other top high school archers in the state. CCHS’ score qualified the team for the National Archery Tournament in Louisville, Kentucky to be held May 11-13, 2017.

“The team is extremely excited to attend this prestigious tournament were the nation’s top archery teams participate,” archery coach Kelly Gaston said. “The CCHS Archery team would like to thank their families and anyone else who has supported the team during the season.”
Team member Molly Desmond achieved a new personal high score at the state competition. Desmond said she was nervous because the competition layout was a little different than what she had been used to.

Gaston said many of her seniors this year have been on an archery team since they were in sixth grade.
