Clanton Elementary School students enjoyed a day of fun during the annual field day on April 21.

P.E. teacher Shelia Speaks said this is the 10th year for the event.

Thirteen activities were set up for the students in preschool to second grade to enjoy. Some highlighted different physical challenges, while others were just for fun.

“Some of them we do in P.E. Some of them we don’t. Some of them are just fun activities, like we have the water relay,” Speaks said.

The P.E. teacher said she enjoys watching the students, and the teachers, have fun.

“The teachers enjoy it just as much as the kids,” Speaks said.

Students jumped, ran, slid and threw as they made their way around the stations set up on Chilton County High School’s football field.

P.E. teacher Selene Bernal said the event is also a way to see how students have progressed from the beginning of the year. This was most illustrated, she said, watching student’s coordination during the opening dance.

“I really love the dance, how they progress during the year. I’m also excited for them to have fun,” Bernal said.

Bernal said some of the stations also help students work on skills beyond physical ability, such as working as a team.

Face painting, photos with the school mascot and Kona ice were also available.

Members of the CCHS Student Government Association volunteered at the event.
