Horace Hoyt Carden

Horace Hoyt Carden, age 86 of the Union Grove Community in Jemison, passed away on Sunday, April 16 at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster.

He was born in Chilton County on February 28, 1931, the son of the late Roy L. Carden and the late Pearl Wilson Carden.

He retired from US Steel Corporation as a gantry operator. He went on to retire from K-Mart, where he worked in the garden center.

He is survived by his son, John Steven (Donna) Carden of Billingsley; daughter, Melissa Carden (John) Moore of Hoover; wife, MaryAnn Birmingham Carden of Clanton; grandsons, John Camron (Michelle)Carden, Steven Chase (Missy) Carden, Miles Scott Benson, and Scott Robert (Katie) Moore; and great grandchildren, Sophie Carden, Abigail Carden, Mae Margaret Carden, Vada Carden, and Holt Carden.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Rheda Sue Carden; parents, Roy and Pearl Carden; brother, Raymond Carden; sister, Mavis Graves; sister, Royce Mae Little; brother, Rev. Robert L. Carden; and infant brother, Bobby Joe Carden.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 18 from 6-8 p.m. at Ellison Memorial Funeral Home in Clanton. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 19 at 2 p.m. from the Clanton First United Methodist Church with Rev. J. Aaron Ellison and Rev. Rob West officiating. Burial will follow in the Union Grove Community Cemetery in Jemison.
