The Chilton County Arts Council is looking for local artists to participate in this year’s Chilton County Arts Show.

Two-dimensional art, such as paintings drawings, photography and printmaking, as well as three-dimensional art, such as sculpture and ceramics, will be accepted

“All artwork must be original,” organizer Charlotte Rowland said.

Rowland said maximum size for artwork is 24 inches high by 28 inches wide including frame.

Two-dimensional pieces must be ready to be hung with wire on the back.

This is the fourth year for the event.

“I enjoy seeing the artwork that people turn in and talking to the artists in the county. We would really like to have more participation this year,” Rowland said.

Deadline to sign up for featuring artwork in the show is April 29. The entry fee is $10 per piece for Art Council members and $20 per piece for non-members. Each artist can submit a maximum of two pieces to the show.

Interested artists can email chiltoncountyartscouncil@hotmail.com for an entry form.

Arts Council president Sue Ann Hoyt encouraged all Chilton County artists to get involved.

“Some people say, ‘Oh my work is just crafty and it’s not good enough’ but I think it’s really important for them to see their work in an exhibit and see it against other people’s work,” Hoyt said.

She said this gives an artist a new perspective on their work, what their strengths are and how they can improve.

Artists are required to drop off their work at the Chilton County Arts Council on April 26 between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. or April 29 between 10 a.m. and noon.

The show will kick off with a public reception and open house on May 6 from 1 to 3 p.m. Work will be featured in the Rose Gallery throughout the month of May. The Gallery will be open Wednesdays in May from 1 to 3 p.m. and Saturdays starting May 13 from 10 a.m. to noon until the end of the month.

“I think is important to let the artist in the county give them a chance to display their art and let the public see their art,” Rowland said.

Some artwork in the show will be for sale, but Rowland said this is up to the artist.

Prizes will be awarded for Best in Show winners.

Rowland said first place would receive $100, second place $50 and third place $25. Honorable mention will be awarded $10.

An out-of-county judge will select the winners.

The Rose Gallery is located at 703 Second Avenue North in downtown Clanton.
