Drama on the High Seas in Jemison City Hall

The play centers on two sisters who are on a cruise to France and get into all sorts of mischief.

Chilton Christian Academy will perform two showings of “Drama on the High Seas” in Jemison City Hall on March 23-24 at 7 p.m. each night.
The production is a 90-minute comedy about two sisters on their senior trip and their “foolish” adventures on a cruise to France, according to English teacher Charlotte Johnson.
The cast edited the play from three acts to two. Everyone from the 11th and 12th grades at CCA who can participate is in the play. The group pulled in a few underclassmen as well.
“You’ve got basketball players, softball players, baseball players, cheerleaders – they’re all involved,” Johnson said. “We started setting up Monday and the first time they went on stage was [Wednesday]. That’s how we do it, we put it together like lightning warfare.”
The cast edited the script of the play to find the parts they liked best. It is the 11th production for the school and its second year doing a short play in City Hall, according to Johnson.
The cast members have learned from the experience and are ready to perform.
“I like acting and it’s not as scary as I thought it would be,” Haley Bolton said.
“I’m looking forward to seeing everybody in the audience and the way they light up with us as we make them happy and laugh,” Elise Johnson said.
“I’ve been involved in three of the plays … This one I’m way more involved. In the past ones I’ve been backstage or special effects crew,” Carter Johnson said. “In this one I am on stage and have a lot of lines, so it’s a lot different having to learn the lines and still help out backstage … I think it’ll be a lot of fun.”
“[My character’s] a goofy guy to get some laughs,” Drew Hodges said. “I definitely identify with it.”
Tickets to the show are $7 for adults and $5 for children. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Jemison City Hall is located on Highway 31 in Jemison across from McDonald’s.
