Chilton County High School softball advanced to the next round of the county tournament after an 8-6 victory over Thorsby on March 18.

The Rebels held their own for the first five innings. The two teams started out on even footing in the first with two points each, but Thorsby’s Lauren Reeser smashed a homerun over the fence in the top of the third to gain a one-run lead for the Rebels.

Thorsby held the lead until the bottom of the fifth. A surge of fielding errors allowed two CCHS runners to make it home.

The battle continued in the top of the sixth. Thorsby’s Lindsey Burnette batted in two runners with the help of an error and then stole her way around the bases for a run, putting the score at 6-4 in the Rebels’ favor.

Not willing to give up, CCHS had four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Hallie Ousley opened the half with a double. Two outs followed, but the Tigers were determined to make base hits and score.

The next three batters did just that. Brianna Connell brought Ousley home with a single. Anastasia Pitts and Morgan Dennis hit singles and capitalized on Thorsby’s errors to proceed around the bases following Connell to score a total of four runs in two outs.

Thorsby went three and out in their last at bat and the Tigers emerged victorious.
