The Jemison Panthers varsity softball team picked up a big area win on March 2 with an 8-4 victory over the visiting Calera Eagles.

Despite a leadoff walk that led to an RBI double by Nicole Harrelson and gave the Eagles an early 1-0 lead, the Panthers answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the first on a bases loaded walk by Chloe Eddins and a RBI single by Madison Moore that swung the lead in favor of Jemison, 2-1.

The second and third innings came and went with no change in the score, before the Eagles tied things up in the top of the fourth inning when a leadoff triple by Charley Clark brought the score to two-all after a wild pitch allowed Clark to cross the plate.

The Calera lead was short lived, as the Panthers again answer with runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning.

A leadoff double by Jessica Paschal set up an RBI single by Hannah Corbin and a two-RBI single by Madison Moore, Jemison took a 5-2 lead after four innings of play.

A three up and three down inning for Calera in the top of the fifth gave way to the bottom half of the inning, where the Panthers put another run on the board via another RBI single from Corbin to make the score 6-2.

A one out single and a pair of walks would set up a two RBI single by Harrelson to start the top of the sixth inning, but again the Panthers answered, as a pair of walks set up a two-RBI sacrifice fly by Paschal that brought the game to its final score of 8-4.

Moore led the Panthers at the plate with a 3-for-3 performance with three singles and three RBIs.

Corbin pitched six innings for Jemison, while allowing only two hits, with two earned runs, one walk and 11 strikeouts.
