Red Devils fall in season finale

It was a tough way to end for the three seniors on the Verbena girls basketball team, as the Red Devils (2-11, 0-6) lost 54-38 to Altamont on Feb. 3 in the home finale.
The game marked the last time that seniors Makaylie Kelley, Candice Williams and Makayla Mims had the opportunity to play in front of their home crowd.
Despite a sluggish offensive effort, all three seniors found the score sheet, as Kelley finished with six points, while Williams knocked in five and Mims added two.
The Red Devils were led on the night by Janiya White, who tallied 24 of Verbena’s 38 points.
Despite a lack of recent success, Williams will have plenty to remember when looking back on her time as a member of the basketball team at Verbena.
“I’ll miss the feel of the game,” Williams said. “There’s something about being out there on the court that just brings you alive.”
One of the things she will miss most is the bus rides, and the interesting conversations that were had during that time.
“They were always fun,” Williams said. “This was an amazing group to be a part of.”
