Get your popcorn ready and find a comfortable seat, because Clanton First United Methodist Church will hold a free family movie night at 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 27.

It will be the third time that the church has hosted such an event, and is something that has become part of the regular schedule on a quarterly basis.

The feature film is “Moms’ Night Out,” which was released in 2014 and stars Sean Astin, Patricia Heaton and Trace Adkins. It is a Christian-based comedy directed by the brother tandem of Andrew and Jon Erwin.

“It’s an opportunity for the community to go out and have some fun in a faith-friendly environment,” said Lynn Best, office manager at Clanton First United Methodist Church.

Popcorn and drinks will be provided, as well as childcare and kid-based movies in the upstairs area.

“It’s just something for families to do locally,” Best said.

Katie Jowers and Alice Graham were the originators of the idea for the movie night and it has continued to grow from the roughly 70 people that attended the inaugural showing.

“They are about opening doors for the community and its members,” Best said.

The event is free to the public and will take place in the Helen Parrish Activity Center. For more information, call the church at (205) 755-0490.

The next movie will be shown during the summer months.

“If it continues to grow, we may even consider increasing the number of showings,” Best said.
