The outcome was never in doubt during the first round girls matchup between Chilton County High School and Maplesville, as the Tigers roared past 67-14.

CCHS scored the first 15 points in the game behind the combined effort of guards Lexis Blackman and Adi Argent with 11 first quarter points between them.

The defense picked up the intensity even more in the second quarter and used quick hands to convert turnovers into points on several occasions.

Holley McKinnon brought the ball up court and drained a straightaway 3-pointer at the buzzer to extend the Tigers’ lead 44-3 at halftime.

“The biggest thing come back from Christmas and the long layover, was getting out there and letting the girls run,” CCHS head coach Robert Bradford said. “We’ve got some pretty athletic girls this year.”

Maplesville’s offense found some success in the second half with Tydasia Davis scoring in the post on its first trip down the court.

The Red Devils scored 14 points in the contest, including shots from beyond the arc from Janiya Moore and Sha’kea Mitchell and an old-fashioned three-point play by Megan Weaver.

The convincing victory allowed Bradford to provide meaningful minutes for every player on his bench.

As a result, 11 players found the score sheet in the game for the Tigers and were led by Argent with 15 points.

“We knew there was going to be some growing pains getting everyone on the same page early in the season,” Bradford said. “The county tournament is a perfect time for us to start turning it on.”

Chilton County will prepare to take on Jemison in the second round of the county tournament on Friday at 6:30 p.m.

The Panthers are the No. 2 seed and had a bye in the first round.
