Chilton County High School is welcoming the quickly approaching New Year, as part of a fundraiser for the Gridiron Club and the football program.

According to volunteer Jennifer Wade, the stand, along with the club’s during Fourth of July, are the two biggest opportunities to raise money.

The stand opened on Tuesday and will be open until Jan. 1. It is located at its traditional location in the Walmart parking lot in Clanton.

“It picks up as we get closer to the day,” Wade said from experience. “That is when it gets the most hectic.”

Parents and players will help as volunteers to run the stand different segments throughout each day.

Wade’s son Jody Little is a sophomore at Chilton County High school and is a member of the football team.

“As parents, we just try to do whatever we can to make sure we stay involved and continue to move the program forward,” Wade said.

Christopher Smith is the president of the Gridiron Club and creates the schedule ahead of time. He stops in to check of the stand throughout the day.

“If it wasn’t for him, we wouldn’t be where we are at in terms of the program,” Wade said.

This year a variety of items are on hand with a selection from the high priced noise makers to the simple firecrackers that intrigue the likes if kids.

Sales include buy one-get-one offers, as well as goodie bags that are packed with some of the most popular items.

As always, military discounts are expected with the proof of an id. All customers must be made by those 18 years or old.
