With the varsity basketball season in full swing, the junior high season has already wrapped up and the Thorsby Rebels girls’ squad finished undefeated.

The Rebels cruised through its seven-game schedule, which included home-and-home matchups against Isabella, Billingsley and West Blocton.

Thorsby outscored its opponents 209 to 62 and grabbed control of each game behind a tenacious defense that allowed just nine points per game and an opportunistic offense that averaged 30 points.

“This group was very scrappy on defense and very unselfish on offense,” Thorsby head coach Leighsa Robinson said. “Most of our points were scored from turnovers from our press.”

The most points scored was 41 against Billingsley on Nov. 17, while 12 points was the most that the Rebels surrendered during a road contest against Isabella on Dec. 7.

It is quite the accomplishment to go undefeated at any level and for the 10 girls that made up the team; the 2016 junior high season will always be perfect.

“They are a very athletic bunch of girls who worked hard during practice and in games,” Robinson said. “They are very coachable and eager to learn.”

The positive season at the junior high level proves that enthusiasm within the girls basketball program at Thorsby is strong moving forward.

“I’m very anxious to see this bunch grow as players,” Robinson said. “They have bright futures ahead of them if they continue to work at their game.
