Rev. Wayne Smith

Rev. Wayne Smith passed away Wednesday, Nov. 30 in Montgomery at the age of 77.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 3 at 11 a.m. at Millbrook Baptist Church. The body will lie in state for one hour prior to service time. The family will receive friends at Brookside Funeral Home Friday evening from 6-8 p.m.

Wayne was born May 3, 1939 in Chilton County to the late Denson and Eloise Smith. Wayne was called to preach at an early age, as a child he would take his little bible and preach to the chickens. Wayne attended Sanford University and received his Bachelors in Divinity. He then received his Masters in Ministry from Luther Rice. Wayne pastored many country churches before being called to Millbrook Baptist Church in 1971. He pastored there for 35 years until he retired. He was currently the interim pastor at Tunnel Chapel Baptist Church.

His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy. He will be missed by all who loved him.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, twin brother at birth, and his sister Helen.

Wayne is survived by his loving wife, Kaye Smith, of 57 years. He loved and cherished her till the end, always thinking of her and making sure that she was taken care of. He was always steadfast in his love for all of us, his family and friends, but her most of all.

Wayne is survived by daughters, Tammie (Joe) Uptain and Angel (Greg) Austin; sons, Micah (Staci) Smith and Jamall (Heather) Smith; grandchildren, Linda (Jason) Guy, Timothy Uptain, Logan Smith, Lexi Smith, Macie Smith, Mea Smith and Brayden Smith; his brother, Ralph (Marie) Smith; and sister Carol (Clyde) Pearce.

Pallbearers will be Ken Russell, Donnie Ray Stephens, Timmy Richardson, Bryan Wilson, Ken Jones and Ron Justiss.
