Members of the Thorsby Town Council were appointed as liaisons for each of the town’s departments during a meeting on Monday.
Mayor Robert Hight appointed Marvin Crumpton to shop-maintenance; Glenn Littleton to the police department; Chasity Chapman to parks and recreation; Marilyn Collins to the fire department and Neil Benson to administration.
Police Chief Rodney Barnett updated the Council on the preparation for the town’s Christmas parade scheduled for Dec. 3 at 9 a.m.
Barnett has requested permission to block U.S. 31 for about 15 minutes, as part of the parade route. He is also working with the railroad.
“We’re just trying to do everything we can to make sure things are as safe as possible for everyone involved,” Barnett said.
According to Public Works Director Terry Jackson, the town’s water level actually went up about a foot even without rain.
Jackson attributes the increase to the fact that residents are conserving and fully aware of the drought situation.
In other news from the meeting, the Council:
- Appointed Tiffany Hammock to the zoning board.
- Appointed Crystal Smith to the variance board.
- Appointed Robert Hight to the 9-1-1 board.
- Approved to pay the town’s bills.
- Approved the minutes from the previous Council meeting.
