The Chilton County Tigers played host to the Calera Eagles on Nov. 18 as the two teams squared off on the hardwood with both teams coming away with a win

The CCHS girls won 54-30, while the boys fell to the Eagles 73-72.

A 6-0 run gave the Tigers an early lead, but a basket from Calera’s Anna Goodwin broke the Chilton County run.

However, six consecutive points from Alexis Blackman gave the Tigers a 14-6 lead at the end of the first period.

Six consecutive points to start the second by Jasmine Martin extended the Tiger lead to 12 and a basket by Kaley Lucas along with one from the free throw line brought the Chilton County lead to 15.

The Tigers led 24-17 at the half.

Lexis Blackman and Calera exchanged baskets to start the third, but a basket from Brittney Davis and a three from Blackman extended the Tigers lead to 10.

With six consecutive points from Adi Argent, the Tigers lead grew to 16, as Chilton County closed the third quarter with a 37-22 lead.

Four more points by Argent to start the fourth along with a basket from Blackman and Malika Lykes made the Tiger lead 21.

Baskets from Salena Stoneback and Jordan Ray extended the Tiger lead further as Chilton County cruised to their first win of the young season.

Argent and Blackman each put up 16 points for the Tigers with Argent adding two rebounds and 10 steals, while Lexis added five rebounds and five steals.

The varsity boys contest between the Tigers and Eagles would be a tail of two halves as what was a first half route by the Eagles would turn into a nail biter in the second half after an epic Tigers comeback.

With Calera leading 41-23 at the half, the lead quickly grew to 24 points early in the second half.

However, it was a bucket from Mondez Jones that ignited a fire in the Tigers, which began to claw their way back.

The bucket from Jones would be the beginning of an 11-0 Chilton County run that brought the score to 50-39 midway through the third.

Joey Cleckler started another Chilton County run of 9-0 that brought the Tigers to within eight.

A basket by Jaylan Martin cut that lead to six in the final quarter.

Calera led by just one with only nine seconds to play. A Tigers foul on CJ Smith sent the Eagles to the foul line but Smith was unable to sink either free throw.

The Tigers had a last second shot to win the game by Donte Davis, but it fell just short and sealed the fate of the Tigers.

Jones led the Tigers with 17 points, 16 rebounds, two steals and two blocks.
