Jemison police have arrested Josh Bivens as the prime suspect for the stabbing of a 6-year-old male child.
Bivens, the child’s uncle, is suspected by police to have stabbed his nephew in the chest with a pencil. Police responded to a call Saturday, Nov. 19 at the 200 block of Wesson Street.
Bivens had left before police arrived, but he has since been located and arrested. He is in the Chilton County jail and faces charges of attempted murder, felony assault and resisting arrest.
The child was treated for the non-life threatening injury at Children’s Hospital in Birmingham and released.
“This is a sad situation for this 6-year-old child,” said Chief Shane Fulmer with the Jemison Police Department. “I am very grateful that the outcome wasn’t as bad as it could have been. We are not completely sure of the motive at this time.”
Fulmer assured the public that investigators “will do everything they can to ensure that Bivens is held accountable for his actions” as they work to close the case.
