Turnovers cost the Billingsley Bears heavily on Thursday night in a season-ending 48-12 loss on the road against the Dallas County Hornets.

The Bears started out on the plus side of the turnover column as John Callens picked off a second down pass attempt by the Hornets, but a three-and-out by Billingsley left the game scoreless.

The teams exchanged scoreless possessions once more before Dallas County put the games game’s first points on the board, as Calvin Starks Jr. went in from 5 yards out to give the Hornets a 8-0 lead early in the second quarter.

A hot punt rush by the Hornets on a forth and 16 from their own 16 was enough to bring down Bears’ punter Landon Reed and turn the ball over to the Hornets.

One play later and Starks made the score 14-0 with a 3-yard touchdown run.

A Billingsley fumble on the ensuing drive set up another Hornets scoring drive that ended to bring the Dallas County lead to 20-0 late in the second quarter.

The ensuing Billingsley possession saw another turnover, as a pass attempt from quarterback Larry Starks fell into the hands of a Dallas County defender and helped set up another Hornets score to make the deficit 28 points at the half.

The Hornets wasted little time continuing to rack up the points, as Dallas County returned a punt 64 yards for another Dallas County touchdown.

With 10:16 to play in the third, the Hornets led 34-0.

Scoreless possessions by both teams moved the game late into the third quarter and saw the Bears finally get on the board with a 48-yard touchdown pass from James Woods to Carlton McCary to make the score 34-6.

The Hornets answered right back with another scoring drive that resulted in a 41-yard touchdown run.

However, the Bears responded with another passing touchdown between Woods and McCary to make the score 41-12 early in the forth quarter.

With 4:56 to play, Dallas County put the games last points on the board with an 18-yard touchdown run to bring the game to its final score of 48-12.

The 2016 football season came to an end for Billingsley, who finished the season with four wins and five losses.
