Lomax Assembly of God is raising funds for its new children and youth center.

The church is unified in its effort to raise funds for the new building, after the body voted to borrow half and raise half of the money required. Now, everyone is on board, and the fundraising is getting creative.

The church has uploaded interviews with some of its members who have found unique ways to contribute to the Max Center. From children selling coloring sheets, to workers donating their labor, everyone is doing their part.

Steve Penley, a member of the body of Lomax, has pledged to run 10 miles every day for the month of November to raise funds for the Max Center. He is asking friends, family, businesses and people of the community to pledge per mile as he runs 300 miles in November.

“My heart behind it, my motivation, is the kids,” said Penley. “The kids are a mission field … if people could just see the vision of the kids.”

Penley said he is expecting his 13th grandchild soon. Some of his grandchildren live here in Chilton County, and he hopes they get to enjoy the building with their friends in the community soon.

“These kids are gonna come through here and grow, and just the opportunity to minister to them is great,” said Penley.

Many from the church go out and pray over the foundation in the early hours of the morning or after they get off work, according to Pastor Jeff Calhoun.

The church recently received the building’s metal frame, which currently stands on the foundation, awaiting the rest of the materials.

The excitement was visible at Lomax Sunday night, when the youth of the church could be seen holding a service under the frame in what will be their place to meet in the new building.
