A political forum for County Commission candidates will be held at Senior Connection on Oct. 18 at 6 p.m.

The Chilton County Chamber of Commerce is putting on the forum, which will offer a chance for county residents to hear from candidates for the commission positions. Questions will be submitted before the forum, and a committee will choose some of them to ask the candidates, according to Lynsie Glasscock, executive assistant at the Chamber of Commerce.

Judge Bobby Martin will be the moderator for the event. Candidates will be allowed a chance to answer the questions posed to them and at the end make their case for why they should be elected one of the seven commissioners.

Glasscock said she has been to the previous two political forums held in Clanton. One was for the County Commission and District Court Judge candidates and the other was for mayoral and city council candidates.

“I wish there had been more people there,” said Glasscock. “These are the people you’re voting on in the community and you kind of need to know where they stand.”

Glasscock said this forum would also have one democratic candidate, affording voters a viewpoint from another party.

Van Forester, the Chamber of Commerce chairman and head of the committee for the forum, said it is a great time for voters to become more informed.

“It will let the area ask whatever questions they want and do so in a controlled environment,” said Forester. “[They can] get answers and it will help them make a good decision on voting day.”

The event is open to the public and will be held on Oct. 18 at 6 p.m. at Senior Connection, located at 304 Park Plaza in Clanton. Questions for the candidates can be submitted beforehand to info@chiltonchamberonline.com.
