The Chilton Christian Academy football program took another lump as it continues to grow during a 63-12 loss to Brooklane Christian in the team’s home finale.

The Patriots have yet to win, but head coach Thomas Lyon understands that at this point in the process, the goal is development more than victories.

“We’re still young and trying to figure out some things,” Lyon said. “We’re finally understanding where we need to be and how to adjust to certain things.”

With only a few upperclassmen sprinkled throughout the roster, Chilton Christian has had to play its share of youth, which can result in mistakes.

However, even in the midst of a 63-6 deficit the Patriots continued to find positives in terms of fundamental aspects of the game and the team’s will to compete even in the face of certain defeat.

“The guys have had a tremendous heart, but it’s just discouraging because they want to win,” Lyon said. “The thing to build on is that they want to continue getting better and they’re remaining hungry.”

Walker Powell scored Chilton Christian’s first touchdown on a run, while the lone senior Drew Hodges capped the scoring with a 70-yard kickoff return for a touchdown with less than a minute left in the game.

Something that has never waned is a crowd of supporters that were once again on hand to cheer on the Patriots despite the winless record.

“The parents have come out and supported the team no matter what, even on the road,” Lyon said. “I’ve learned real quick that it is a football county.”
