The Chilton County Master Gardeners Association is hosting a free lunch event Sept. 28 from noon to 1 p.m. The lunch and learn is open to all with an interest in horticulture.

Master Gardener Lanell Baker will teach a free class called “Starting Plants from Seed.” Drinks will be provided and guests are encouraged to bring a sack lunch to the Chilton County Extension Office, where they will eat while they learn.

Baker will demonstrate how to plant a seed and then show all the steps for caring for the plant. It is not a hands-on class, so attendees need not worry about getting dirty on their lunch break. All they need to worry about is bringing a lunch and being ready to learn.

“It’s a fun alternative to the boring lunch,” said Pat Farmer, president of the Master Gardeners of Chilton County. “It’s a way to introduce people to the Master Gardeners and Extension Office and teach them about horticulture.”

Adjacent to the Chilton County Extension Office are some examples of the Master Gardeners’ work. Guests can be inspired by the displays and imagine what their own plants may someday grow into.

Farmer encouraged women and men to attend this event, where they will have a chance to meet others interested in gardening and learn about horticulture together. Limited spaces are available.

Those interested should call 280-6268 to make a reservation by Sept. 26. The Chilton County Extension Office is located at 504 1st Avenue North in Clanton.
