Three Chilton County Commission members were recognized by the Association of County Commissions of Alabama, a statewide association representing Alabama’s 67 county governments.

Commissioner Allen Caton was elected to the ACCA Legislative Committee at the organization’s 88th Annual Convention.

“County governments are often limited in what they can do because they are a creation of the state,” ACCA Executive Director Sonny Brasfield said. “That means it is incredibly important for counties to have a strong working relationship with members of Legislature.

“Serving on this committee is a huge responsibility that impacts the daily lives of each and every Alabama citizen. Allen has proven time and again that he is up to the task.”

Caton represents ACCA’s District 6, which includes Chilton, Bibb, Dallas, Greene, Hale, Perry, Pickens, Sumter and Tuscaloosa counties.

Commissioners Bobby Agee and Heedy Hayes, meanwhile, were recognized by ACCA at the convention for their years of service to county government and the state.

Agee was recognized for 28 years of service, and Hayes was recognized for 24 years of service.

“Commissioners Agee and Hayes deserve the thanks of all Alabamians for their dedication to public service and personal sacrifice,” 2015-16 ACCA President Ray Long said. “Considering the extraordinary challenges county commissioners face every day, they have continually served their constituents with honor and pride, and they deserve a pat on the back from everyone in Chilton County.”

ACCA presents the Tenure in Office Award annually to honor commissioners who have served at least 16 years in office. The award is given for four-year increments thereafter.
