Thorsby 23   Francis Marion 8

The Rebels were off to a sluggish 0-2 start in their 2016 season, which did not bode well for a team wanting to make history and get past the second round of the playoffs. A loss on Friday night would have put them in a hole that would’ve been extremely difficult to crawl out of.

Thorsby went into Francis Marion and came out with a big 23-8 win, which now puts their record at 1-2, but more importantly puts them at 1-0 in region 4 of the 2A class.

Head coach Billy Jackson stressed last week that this is when the season really started, now that they had lost two games and were about to start area play they knew what they had to do if they wanted to make a run at the playoffs.

They stepped up in a big way tonight and will have to do so in their next game on Sept. 9, as they host a Verbena team that has put up 42 points in back to back games.

If the Rebels can win that one and get out to a 2-0 start in their region, then they are back in the drivers seat.

Verbena 42   R.C. Hatch 40

Verbena won on the road against R.C. Hatch with a final score of 42-40. The Red Devils are now 1-1.

Isabella 48   Winterboro 12

Winterboro returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown, but it did not take long for the tide suddenly to switch in Isabella’s favor.

The Mustangs did not complete a pass, but did not have to due to the effectiveness of the running game for the second straight week.

Austin Brasher and Jarred Campbell tag teamed to fuel Isabella’s potent ground game.

Brasher led the way with 126 rushing yards, while Campbell was not far behind finishing the game with 121 yards.
