Lloyd Span Jones

Lloyd Span Jones, 90, of Decatur passed away Monday, Aug. 22 at River City Center, Decatur.

He was born on Sunday, Sept. 13, 1925 in Chilton County, son of the late Ezekiel Span Jones and the late Hattie Novice Wooley Jones.

Lloyd graduated from Auburn University and spent over thirty-five years in finance and banking. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and participated in the Battle of the Bulge at Omaha Beach.

Lloyd was a Baptist in his faith and a former member of Mulberry Baptist Church, Fifth Avenue Baptist Church of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Central Baptist Church of Decatur. He was a former member of the City of Opportunity Civitan Club of Decatur.

His surviving relatives include his wife of 65 years, Marilyn Bean Jones; son, Brian Span Jones of Montgomery; and brother, Glenn V. Jones of Georgia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ezekiel Span and Hattie Novice Jones; sister, Sara Nell Jones Rasberry; and brothers, John Andrew and Chalmus H. Jones.

Friends will be received from 10-10:30 a.m., Friday, Aug. 26 at Martin Funeral Home.

Graveside services will be held Friday, Aug. 26 at 11 a.m. at Mulberry Baptist Cemetery.
