West End Baptist Church will hold its 3rd annual 5K/1 Mile Fun Run to benefit the Chilton County Relay for Life on Sept. 10. All proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society.

Last year, participants raised around $1,200 for Relay for Life, according to Hannah Little, a team captain and former chairperson for the event. There were 43 runners and 34 walkers who participated in the race.

This year, Little said she would like to see a minimum of 100 runners participate.

“Kids and adults of all ages are welcome to attend,” said Little. “It is so much fun to see our small community come together to raise money for something that means so much to me as well as to so many others.”

A male and female group for each division will be created as people register. For those who do not wish to run or walk, Little said they can make a donation by registering and opting to sleep in for the cure. Everyone registered by Aug 26 at 3p.m will receive a shirt.

According to Little, there will be bananas and water available for all participants to help them stay hydrated and energized. Door prizes will be given away throughout the day.

The race will begin and end in the West End Baptist Church parking lot. The 5K starts at 8a.m. and the 1 Mile Fun Run starts at 9a.m.

Runners competing in the 5K will run East on 2nd Ave N to First United Methodist Church where they will complete the block then travel back down 2nd Ave.

Runners competing in the Fun Run will travel in a loop that runs down Hinkle Road and back up Martha Street twice.

Participants will receive awards for first and second place in each category of the 5K and for first, second and third place overall in the 5K. Volunteers will be on site to keep the official time.
