Dollar General has joined Seales Grocery as businesses in Maplesville that have been approved for an alcohol license during the Town Council’s monthly meeting on Monday.

The Council also approved an alcohol excise tax and resolution to allow Revenue Discovery Systems to collect and audit tax.

Senator Clyde Chambliss and Marion Bank and Trust Vice President Brad Jackson were on hand during Monday’s meeting.

Chambliss updated the council on how things are going in the legislature, while Jackson officially introduced himself to the Council members and he thanked the Council for opening an account.

Police Chief Todd Ingram informed the Council of Josh Hammond’s resignation as a full time member of the police department in order to take a job in another field. However, it was approved that he could stay on in a part-time role.

As a result, the council also approved the hiring of Keith Crosby as a full-time officer, as well as Trey Burnett as a reserve officer.

Fire Chief Michael Drewry presented an estimate, after it was found that there was a leak in one of the coils of the fire station’s air conditioner.

According to Maplesville town clerk Dawn Smitherman, the unit was refilled with refrigerant, but it is unsure how long it will last due to the leak.

Based on the estimates that Drewry acquired, it will cost $1,200 to $1,500 to replace the coil needed or $3,975 to replace the entire unit.

The Council agreed to have a work session to discuss the 2017 budget that must be passed by the end of September. A date for the work session has not yet been set.

In other news from the meeting, the Council:

•Approved a $1,000 request to Butterfly Bridge Children’s Advocacy Center for the 2017 fiscal year.

•Approved a request for a $500 pledge to Chilton County Transit for the 2017 fiscal year.

•Approved a request to replace the remaining outdated computer/monitor located in the library user area.

•Approved resolutions for municipal offices elected without opposition, which included the mayor and all five seats on the Council.
