The Chilton Chamber of Commerce is hosting a candidate forum for the upcoming municipal elections on Aug. 23.

Committee chair Van Forrester said the forum will be on Thursday, Aug. 11 at 6:30 p.m., and he said they are still looking for a location.

Forrester said the previous two forums had a large number of attendees and they are searching for a larger venue.

“It’s been a great turnout for the forums previously and we’ve had to change the venue each time,” Forrester said. “The last forum we had about 150 people attend.”

The forum will host all mayoral and council candidates and each candidate will have a set amount of questions and time to answer depending on the number of participants.

Forrester said the questions will be submitted by residents before the event. After the question portion each candidate will have a few minutes to explain why they are the best fit for the position.

Forrester said anyone who is unable to attend can listen to the forum on 97.7 The Peach radio station. He said so far the only city participating is Clanton, and they hope to have more municipalities join before the event.

“As a county chamber we would be happy to see many municipalities join us for the evening,” Forrester said.
