Advertiser claims awards in annual contest

The Clanton Advertiser’s website, ClantonAdvertiser.com, was recognized as the best in the state in its division by the Alabama Press Association’s Better Newspaper Contest.

The award was one of several in editorial and advertising earned by the Advertiser.

The Advertiser competes in Division B with other community daily newspapers.

In all divisions, 110 newspapers submitted 2,775 entries in the annual contest, which was judged by the Louisiana Press Association.

Awards were presented June 18 at the APA Convention, which was held at the Hilton Golf and Beach Resort in Destin, Fla.

Other Better Newspaper Contest and Advertising Contest awards claimed by the Advertiser included:

•Best editorial page, third place.

•Best sports page, third place.

•Best in-depth news coverage, third place, for “Still making sacrifices” by Stephen Dawkins. The story was about the lives of local veterans.

•Best local education coverage, second place.

•Best business story or column, third place, for “Bumper crop” by Whitney Denson. The story was about Chilton County peaches.

•Best sports news in-depth coverage, third place, for “Putting in the work” by Stephen Dawkins. The story was about the strength and conditioning program for Chilton County High School athletics.

•Best production and printing, third place.

•Best single ad over 1/2 black and white, third place, for “Real Estate Associates” by Brandy Clackley.
