The temperatures are rising and pools are often times the option that people use to help beat the heat.

Some have had pools for years, while others may have recently bought a pool and are attempting to maintain it throughout the summer months.

According to Amanda Franks at Todd’s Pool and Construction in Clanton, the interest in pools begins to rise the week before Memorial Day and continues just past the Fourth of July.

Todd’s Pool and Construction does not offer installation but provides maintenance assistance for pool owners.

“The first thing we tell them to do is to bring in a water sample,” Franks said.

According to Franks, a computer system on site is used to run the water sample through various tests that are free to the public.

Based on the final results, the next step in the process is determined.

“The biggest problem this year that we have seen is over-stabilization due to too much Cyanuric acid in the pool water,” Franks said.

Though it is important to add chemicals to help control algae, it is also important not to over use chemicals, Franks said.

Common signs of excessive Cyanuric acid are various forms of skin irritation.

“The proper PH level should rest somewhere between 7.2 and 7.6,” Franks said.

Todd’s Pool and Construction is owned by Todd and Leah Baker and offer weekly service inspections for those that wish the professionals to handle their pool maintenance jobs.

“All you have to do is swim,” Franks said. “We’ll take care of the rest.”
